West Delhi man detained after wife dies by suicide in Nangloi Extension

A 26-year-old woman died by suicide on June 23 following alleged domestic harassment and physical abuse by her husband in the Nangloi Extension area of West Delhi. Following the incident, the Delhi Police detained the woman's husband, identified as Rohit, and registered a criminal case against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The local police received information regarding the matter at 11:09 a.m. on June 23, when they were notified that the young woman had been admitted to SGM Hospital. A subsequent police enquiry into the incident revealed that the woman's death was caused by suicidal hanging.
Because the death took place within seven years of the couple's marriage, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was formally informed to conduct the mandatory inquest proceedings. As part of the ongoing investigation, the deceased woman’s mother recorded her detailed statement before the tehsildar of Mundka.
In her statement, the mother alleged that her son-in-law, Rohit, frequently assaulted her daughter. She further stated that these physical assaults typically occurred when the husband was under the influence of alcohol.
Although the investigating officers did not recover any physical suicide note from the residence, they discovered two videos that the woman had recorded shortly before her death. In these video recordings, the deceased directly alleged ongoing harassment by both her husband and her in-laws.
In one of the recovered videos, the woman is seen addressing her parents directly. She made an emotional appeal asking them to take care of her infant daughter and specifically pleaded with them not to leave the young child in the custody of her husband.
The Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges filed against the husband include Section 85 for committing cruelty and Section 108 for the abetment of suicide.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), the husband remains detained while the authorities and the SDM proceed with the inquest.
