Two Men Arrested For Four Mobile Phone Snatchings In One Hour Near IP Flyover

The Delhi Police have arrested two men for their involvement in a series of mobile phone snatching incidents in the ITO-IP Estate area, uncovering a structured street crime module that carried out four snatchings within a single hour. The arrests followed an investigation into a robbery that occurred near the IP Flyover towards Kashmere Gate on June 27.
The investigation began after a mobile phone snatching was reported at the IP Estate Police Station. The complainant, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, told police officers that he was travelling on a motorcycle near the IP Flyover when two unidentified men riding a black motorcycle snatched his mobile phone and fled the scene. A case was subsequently registered by the police.
During the course of the investigation, police officers discovered that the incident was not an isolated event. Instead, it was part of a series of four snatching incidents that were all reported within the span of a single hour in the same area.
"The team carried out an examination of CCTV footage and local intelligence was also developed," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh.
Through these investigative methods, the police team identified one of the accused as Asif, a 26-year-old from the Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh. Police officers traced Asif to his native village, Mahdood, where he was arrested last Wednesday.
During his subsequent questioning by investigators, Asif allegedly admitted to committing the crime. He also told the police investigators that he had carried out the snatchings along with a co-accused, identified as Shahrukh.
Because the accused were operating as part of a structured street crime module, the police have invoked legal provisions related to organised crime against them.
