Two Dead in Mamura Village Fire Triggered by Charging Electric Vehicle

On July 15, 2026, a fatal fire broke out in a residential building in Mamura village, Noida, killing two residents and forcing the emergency evacuation of approximately 50 people. The blaze was allegedly triggered by sparks from an electric vehicle that was being charged on the premises.
According to Gautam Buddha Nagar Joint Commissioner Rajeev Narain, preliminary findings suggest the fire started on the ground floor. A spark from the charging electric vehicle is believed to have ignited the initial fire, which then rapidly spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles parked in the same area.
The residential structure is a ground-plus-four-floor building housing around 50 occupants. Joint Commissioner Narain noted that the building had parking on the ground floor but did not feature a basement. Because of this layout, thick smoke from the burning vehicles in the parking area quickly travelled upwards through the building, trapping and affecting the residents living above.
The building is configured with around 12 rooms per floor, set up as two-room flats. Each floor of the residential structure accommodates about five families.
Upon receiving reports of the blaze, local police and the Chief Fire Officer rushed to the Mamura village site. Emergency responders deployed seven fire tenders and a hydraulic platform to combat the flames and rescue the trapped occupants.
While the fire department successfully extinguished the flames and safely evacuated about 50 residents, two individuals suffered severe health complications due to smoke inhalation. The victims, identified as a man and a woman, were rushed to the district hospital via ambulance. However, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
In the wake of the incident, local police authorities announced that an FIR is being registered against both the owner of the building and the leaseholder. The case is being registered under relevant sections at the Phase-3 police station. Joint Commissioner Narain confirmed that both the owner and the leaseholder have been taken into custody by the police.
