Two arrested in Bengal over murder of DU professor in Vasundhara Enclave

Two masked suspects have been arrested in West Bengal in connection with the murder of Delhi University assistant professor Devosmita Paul at her residence in Satyam Apartment, Vasundhara Enclave in East Delhi, police announced on Sunday.

Rajiv Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), confirmed the development and stated that the two suspects are being brought to Delhi for further interrogation. Kumar noted that the suspects had an ongoing property dispute with the victim in West Bengal.

Paul, who lived alone in her flat in Vasundhara Enclave, was found dead on Thursday afternoon. The discovery was made after her sister, Devarati Paul, alerted the authorities upon finding the body inside the apartment. Paul’s husband resides in Bengaluru.

During the initial inspection of the crime scene, Delhi Police officers found no signs of theft or ransacking in either of the rooms of the flat. No valuables were missing from the residence, which led investigators to suspect that someone known to the victim was involved in the crime.

As the investigation progressed, police analyzed CCTV footage from the apartment complex. The cameras had captured two masked individuals, including a woman, entering the complex a day before the murder was discovered. According to the police, the suspects remained inside the residential complex for approximately 40 to 45 minutes before they were spotted leaving.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Paul was attacked with a blunt object, which caused fatal injuries to her head.

According to police sources, call detail records of the deceased showed that her last communication was a phone call with her mother at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Family members told investigators that Paul appeared normal during the conversation and did not express any concern.
