Two arrested after speeding car hits five people inside Mayur Vihar housing society

On Tuesday, Delhi Police arrested two 21-year-old men after a speeding car hit at least five people and damaged several parked two-wheelers inside Aastha Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase III, East Delhi, on Sunday night. The incident, which occurred around 9:00 PM, left five people injured, with two victims remaining in critical condition.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar confirmed that the arrested suspects, identified as Sushant and Atul, were apprehended from Mayur Vihar III. Police traced the duo, both residents of Ghazipur, using CCTV footage. Investigators are currently searching for a third suspect involved in the incident.

According to the police, Sushant, an open university student, had gone to the housing society on Sunday night to meet a woman. Residents Welfare Association president Raju Verma stated that an argument broke out after a scooter's headlight briefly fell on Sushant and his companion.

The scooter was ridden by 15-year-old Rohan, who was accompanied by his 12-year-old cousin, Mohit. The two teenagers had left their home to return photographs to a kirtan mandli. Sushant allegedly threw a flowerpot at them, causing Rohan to lose control of the scooter. Mohit was then chased and beaten up.

Sushant allegedly called his friends, who arrived from Ghazipur in a black car with a missing number plate. When residents intervened to stop the fight, the assailants attacked them with thick wooden beams with protruding screws.

To escape the scene, Sushant allegedly got behind the wheel of the car and drove at a high speed, ramming into pedestrians and parked two-wheelers.

Among the injured, 12-year-old Mohit remains critical in a hospital. Another resident, 52-year-old MNC manager Vinod, is also in critical condition in an intensive care unit. A third victim, 50-year-old Kaushik Sengupta, sustained multiple facial fractures and is scheduled for surgery in a private hospital's neuro ICU.
