Tuesday Afternoon Rain Triggers Flooding and Power Outages Across Delhi Localities

Intense rain and strong winds on Tuesday afternoon triggered widespread waterlogging, flooding, fallen trees, and power outages across several Delhi localities, including Tis Hazari Courts, Sadar Bazaar, Lutyens' Delhi, East of Kailash, Rajouri Garden, and Vikaspuri. The sudden downpour severely disrupted daily life, flooding court premises and local markets, though municipal officials reported no casualties.
At Tis Hazari Courts, rainwater entered the premises and flooded lawyers' chambers. A video circulating on social media showed people questioning how the court area remained flooded despite official claims that drain-cleaning and desilting work had been completed in June.
In Sadar Bazaar, the Teliwara or Mahavir Bazaar area witnessed severe flooding after just 10 minutes of rain. Local residents reported knee-deep water in some areas, with several people seen dragging their scooters through the flooded lanes. Waterlogging was also reported from different parts of Lutyens' Delhi.
In south Delhi's East of Kailash, strong winds uprooted a large tree that fell onto parked cars, causing significant damage. No injuries or casualties were reported from the incident.
Civic bodies were flooded with complaints as the storm passed. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) received nine complaints through its call centre. These included two cases of waterlogging at Baba Khadak Singh Marg and Panchkuian Road.
Additionally, the NDMC received two complaints related to damaged or fallen trees at Ashoka Road and Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, and five complaints regarding power outages in areas such as Peshwa Road and Mandir Marg. Officials said three of these complaints were resolved by the evening.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported that it had received five complaints from west Delhi related to fallen trees or branches, including in areas such as Rajouri Garden and Vikaspuri.
