Three Killed and One Injured in Rohini Under-Construction Building Collapse

On Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026, a four-storey under-construction building collapsed amid heavy rain in Sector 16, Rohini, killing three people and injuring one labourer. The collapse occurred at around 4:20 p.m. at property numbers G-4/152 and G-4/153, near an MCD school. Police, disaster response teams, and civic agencies launched a massive overnight rescue operation to clear the debris and recover victims.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal confirmed that three bodies were recovered from the rubble during the search operation, which continued through the night into Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old local tailor Ram, 24-year-old labourer Kafe alias Nurul, and 62-year-old Ram Dua, who was the father of the building's owner.

Emergency responders pulled one labourer, 32-year-old Saddam alias Ravi, alive from the debris. He was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Ram was also rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead upon arrival. The other two bodies were recovered later during the prolonged search.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident, and police are currently investigating the exact cause of the structural failure.

The rescue operation, which deployed heavy machinery, involved the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services (DFS), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Revenue Department. While the rescue phase is almost complete, workers continue to clear debris to ensure no other individuals remain trapped.

According to the MCD, the collapsed structures had received sanctioned building plans under the SARAL Scheme. This scheme allows property owners to obtain automatic clearances and building permits by submitting self-verified undertakings through certified architects or engineers.

A preliminary assessment by the civic body suggested that plumbing work was being conducted inside the building at the time of the collapse. The MCD indicated that drilling or cutting of structural members, such as beams and columns, may have contributed to the disaster. However, officials stated that the exact cause will only be established after a detailed technical examination.
