Three arrested for fake Income Tax Department recruitment scam in Delhi

The Delhi Police have arrested three men for allegedly operating a fake Income Tax Department recruitment racket that defrauded multiple job seekers of approximately Rs 10 lakh. The scam was uncovered after a resident of Ajmeri Gate lodged a formal complaint at the Hauz Qazi police station on May 18, alleging that he had been cheated with the false promise of securing a government job.
The arrested individuals have been identified by authorities as Rohit Chauhan, 37, who worked as a freelance placement agent; Chirag Aggarwal, 41, a former Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) employee of the Income Tax Department who was previously stationed at the Civic Centre; and Tarun Goswami, 37, a freelance placement agent and property dealer.
According to the police, the gang is suspected to have targeted and cheated at least six to seven unemployed aspirants by promising them MTS posts within the Income Tax Department. In addition to the three arrests, the police have bound down another former MTS employee, identified as 38-year-old Pawan Dutt Sharma, in connection with the fraudulent scheme.
Providing details on the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh stated that the complainant first came into contact with the accused individuals in December of last year. During this encounter, Chirag Aggarwal introduced himself as an active employee of the Income Tax Department and assured the victim that he could successfully arrange a Multi-Tasking Staff job for him.
Following the filing of the complaint in May, the Delhi Police initiated action and apprehended the three suspects. Police officials stated that active efforts are still underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused individuals associated with the racket, including the person believed to be the mastermind behind the entire scam. The Delhi Police are continuing their efforts to locate these remaining suspects as the investigation into the job racket proceeds.
