Seven Injured as Armed Men Attack Residents in Mayur Vihar Phase 3

A group of armed men attacked residents of the DDA MIG Flats society in Pocket 2, Mayur Vihar Phase 3, East Delhi, late Sunday night, leaving seven people injured. The violent confrontation began after an altercation over a scooter's headlight shining on a man's face. Two of the injured residents, including a 13-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man, were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following the assault.
According to the Delhi Police, the incident originated when an unidentified man began arguing with a young woman inside the housing society. During their altercation, a 13-year-old boy arrived at the spot on his scooter. The headlight of the scooter accidentally fell on the man's face, which angered him. The man then allegedly assaulted the minor and vandalised his scooter.
When the young woman tried to intervene, the accused allegedly misbehaved with her. Other society residents rushed to assist and managed to restrain the man, with some residents allegedly slapping him during the confrontation.
The accused then called more than half a dozen of his associates to the scene. The group arrived armed with sticks, iron rods, and nail-studded clubs, and began attacking residents indiscriminately.
Among those injured was a resident named Chetan, who was attacked while trying to protect the young woman and the minor. The assailants reportedly created chaos in the society for nearly 30 minutes before fleeing the scene. While escaping, they also rammed several vehicles, causing additional damage.
The entire incident was captured on the housing society's CCTV cameras. The Delhi Police have registered a case under charges including attempt to murder. Police officials stated that several suspects have been identified through the CCTV footage and other evidence, and raids are currently underway to arrest them.
Resident Welfare Association (RWA) President Raju Verma alleged that residents made repeated calls to the police during the incident, but officers arrived nearly one-and-a-half to two hours later. The police have not publicly responded to the allegations regarding their response time. Five of the seven injured residents were treated and discharged, while the investigation remains ongoing.
