RPF Responds After Woman Shares Video Of Man Making Obscene Gestures On Vivek Express

On Wednesday, a female passenger travelling on the Vivek Express filmed and posted a video of an unidentified man making obscene gestures towards her, prompting a response from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in New Delhi. The incident, which has sparked widespread social media outrage regarding women's safety on trains, occurred while the train was travelling between Bolpur Junction and Dankuni.
The passenger, identified as Rupali Dixit, shared the video clip on the social media platform X. According to her online post, the incident took place while she was standing near the coach door of train number 15228, which is also known as the SMVT Express.
Dixit claimed in her post that the unidentified male passenger was travelling in the second general coach from the engine. She stated that the man was making obscene gestures directly in her direction during the journey.
Hoping to draw immediate attention to the harassment, Dixit tagged several official accounts in her social media post, including RailMadad, the Ministry of Railways, Railway Seva, and the RPF.
The video quickly went viral and drew widespread attention online, with numerous social media users expressing their outrage and calling for strict action against the passenger. The incident has once again raised significant concerns over the safety of women travelling on trains.
Reacting to the post, one social media user commented that this is exactly why most women do not report such incidents, pointing out that instead of focusing on the man's behavior, people often busy themselves questioning the woman. Another user commented that people like the unidentified man make it hard for women to feel safe, adding that the worst part of such situations is that offenders often get away without facing any consequences.
In response to the viral complaint, the RPF took note of the video and requested the passenger to share her journey details. The authorities asked Dixit to provide her PNR or UTS number, as well as a mobile contact number, via direct message to ensure a speedy redressal of the issue.
