Rekha Gupta Joins Model Town Plantation Drive To Help Plant 70 Lakh Saplings

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a tree plantation drive in the Model Town area on Monday, kickstarting a local push under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. During the event, the Chief Minister urged Delhi citizens to actively participate in the environmental mission, which aims to plant 70 lakh saplings across the national capital during the ongoing monsoon season.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that the initiative is not merely a tree-planting drive. Instead, she described it as a growing people’s movement that reflects a deep respect for nature, the environment, and motherhood. She stated that the campaign successfully connects local citizens with environmental conservation efforts, steering Delhi toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

According to the Chief Minister, the Delhi government remains committed to converting every vacant and suitable space across the Capital into green areas. In Model Town, this effort is already visible, with plantation drives currently being carried out along central verges, beneath metro corridors, and on both sides of the local roads. Gupta noted that thousands of people are already participating in the campaign and playing an active role in conserving the local environment.

The broader plantation drive was officially launched on July 7 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the wake of this launch, the Delhi government introduced a dedicated online portal, www.greendrive.delhivanmahotsav.in, to help streamline and encourage public participation in the green initiative.

Through this new digital portal, Delhi residents can register to join the plantation campaign. The platform allows users to book a slot by selecting a convenient date, time, and location. To make participation easier, the Delhi government has committed to delivering free saplings directly to the homes of citizens who register. Alternatively, residents can use the portal to locate their nearest government nursery and collect their free saplings in person.
