PWD plans survey to decongest Gandhi Nagar road in East Delhi

The Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed an integrated corridor improvement plan for Gandhi Nagar road in East Delhi to address ongoing traffic congestion. The project will specifically target the stretch of the road extending from Mother Dairy to Kashyap Mohalla.
This planning initiative is designed to ease traffic congestion along key arterial stretches in East Delhi. The affected areas that stand to benefit from the decongestion plan include Mother Dairy road, Gandhi Nagar road, and Geeta Colony road.
To kickstart the project, the PWD plans to engage a specialized consultant. This consultant will be responsible for preparing a comprehensive conceptual plan aimed at ensuring smooth, congestion-free traffic movement along the busy corridor.
The scope of work for the project involves conducting a detailed topographical survey of the site. The consultant will be tasked with preparing contour maps that indicate existing ground levels, slopes, drains, and manholes.
Additionally, the topographical survey will identify and document permanent physical structures along the corridor, including lamp posts and trees. The consultant will also document the existing road geometry, footpaths, medians, and traffic islands to provide a complete picture of the current infrastructure.
Another critical aspect of the consultant's assignment is the identification and mapping of all existing utilities. The survey will map vital infrastructure such as water supply lines, sewer lines, electrical cables, and telecom ducts. The consultant will submit all digital survey data to the PWD.
To map what lies beneath the surface, a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey will also be carried out. This GPR survey will identify underground utilities and any potential obstructions up to the required depth.
Once the physical and radar surveys are completed, the consultant will submit a detailed report to the PWD to help guide the next phases of the corridor improvement project.
