Police evacuate residents as fire and explosions hit Majlis Park house

A fire broke out at a house in Street no. 10, Majlis Park in Northwest Delhi on Saturday night, triggering the evacuations of several families and multiple explosions. Around 25 police personnel from the Adarsh Nagar police station rushed to the scene to rescue residents from the burning building and neighbouring houses after narrow lanes delayed the arrival of fire tenders.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call reporting the blaze at the residential property was received at approximately 9:11 PM. In response, five fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the location. The police received a PCR call regarding the incident shortly after at 9:18 PM, prompting a swift response from the nearby Adarsh Nagar police station.
However, the congested layout of the neighbourhood presented a major obstacle. The narrow lanes in the Majlis Park area delayed the movement of the responding fire tenders, making it highly difficult for the emergency vehicles to gain direct access to the burning building.
Recognising the urgency, the police personnel on the ground took immediate action. The officers began evacuating families from both the burning house and the adjoining residences to ensure their safety. In addition to the rescue efforts, the police cordoned off the immediate area and managed the crowd of local onlookers that had gathered.
To contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes, the police officers began using water pipes available within the locality to douse the fire. They continued these efforts while the fire brigade worked its way through the congested streets.
During the containment efforts, a cooking gas cylinder exploded inside the house. Shortly after, two additional explosions were heard. Police suspected these subsequent blasts were caused by the outdoor units of air conditioners installed on the building.
Once the fire tenders successfully navigated the narrow lanes and reached the site, firefighters took over the operation. The teams managed to bring the blaze completely under control by around 10:30 PM.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
