Parents Protest At Queen’s Mary School In North Delhi Over Hiked Fee Demands

On Friday, several parents of students studying at Queen’s Mary School in North Delhi staged a protest against the school management for allegedly refusing to accept the fee approved by the Directorate of Education (DoE) and demanding a hiked fee amount. The protesting parents demanded that the education department take strict action against the school management for allegedly violating the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fee Determination and Regulation) Act, 2025.
The protest took place during the ongoing 2026-27 academic session. Parents reported that the school rejected their fee cheques of the previously approved amounts, insisting on significantly higher monthly payments instead.
Umang Sharma, a parent of a Class 9 student, explained that she had paid the DoE-approved monthly fee of approximately ₹3,700 for the first quarter of the session, covering April, May, and June. However, when she tried to submit a cheque for the same amount for the second quarter after the school reopened following the summer break, the school rejected it.
According to Sharma, the school is now demanding around ₹8,000 per month. She stated that the school had no issues with the payment amount in April but is now refusing to accept her cheques.
Another parent, Rahul Gupta, stated that many parents attempted to pay the fees on the first day the school reopened after the summer break. After individual cheques were rejected over the past week, parents decided to come together and submit their cheques collectively on July 3. However, the school authorities again refused to accept them, insisting on the higher fee.
The ongoing dispute led parents to gather and protest again on Friday. Following the demonstration, several parents approached the deputy director of education (DDE) for Zone 9 to seek intervention. Despite the official’s involvement, the issue remains unresolved.
In response, the school's parent council issued a statement on Friday confirming they have submitted a formal legal complaint with the DDE, Zone 9, seeking immediate regulatory action against the school management. Responses to queries sent to the school and the DoE director were awaited.
