Over 90% of Delhi electricity bills now paid digitally, discom data shows

Over nine out of every 10 electricity bill payments in Delhi are now made through online channels, marking a massive shift towards digital transactions over a five-year period. Data released by the city's power distribution companies reveals that more than 90% of consumers now prefer digital modes to clear their utility bills.
The transition, spanning from financial year 2021-22 to financial year 2025-26, was recorded across Delhi's major discoms, including Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) and BSES companies (BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani).
At Tata Power-DDL, the share of digital transactions rose from 83.4% in FY 2021-22 to 92.9% in FY 2025-26. In terms of volume, digital transactions grew from 74.3 lakh to 1.1 crore during this timeframe. Consequently, non-digital payments for the utility provider experienced a sharp decline, dropping from 14.8 lakh to 8.5 lakh.
Furthermore, the number of Tata Power-DDL consumers using digital modes to pay at least one bill increased from 13.8 lakh in FY 2021-22 to 17.6 lakh in FY 2025-26. This represented 95.3% of all active paying consumers during the year, compared to 89.8% five years earlier.
BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani witnessed a highly similar trajectory. Digital transactions accounted for 85% of all BSES bill payments in FY 2021-22, climbing to 93% by FY 2025-26. The BSES discoms recorded a total of 1.8 crore digital payments in FY 2025-26, up from 1.2 crore in FY 2021-22.
As online payments surged, traditional non-digital payments at BSES fell from 20.8 lakh to 13.1 lakh. The number of individual BSES consumers utilizing digital modes for at least one bill payment also saw substantial growth, rising from 13.7 lakh in FY 2021-22 to 20.6 lakh in FY 2025-26.
