Noida Authority to build Rs 145 crore sports complex in Sector 123

On Thursday, the Noida Authority announced plans to construct a 26.65-acre sports complex in Sector 123 at an estimated cost of ₹145 crore. The project, which will be built over the next two years, aims to establish a comprehensive facility for multiple indoor and outdoor sporting activities on land that was once slated to be a landfill.
According to officials, the Noida Authority has issued a tender to hire an agency to execute the project. The selected agency will develop the sports complex along with all associated infrastructure, civil works, electrical installations, landscaping, and supporting utilities.
The project will be completed in two distinct phases. During the first phase, facilities will be constructed on 14.92 acres of land at a cost of ₹70.34 crore. This phase includes an international-standard synthetic 400-meter athletics track meeting World Athletics standards, a football ground, four tennis courts, four volleyball courts, and two basketball courts. It will also feature areas for long jump, high jump, discus or hammer throw, a javelin runway, and shot put.
Additionally, the first phase will deliver a kids’ area, an open gym, a guard room, toilets, eight kiosks, and parking facilities. High-mast floodlights, public announcement systems, fire-safety installations, air-conditioning systems, and lifts will also be installed during this period.
In the second phase, a multipurpose hall, facilities for indoor games, and residential accommodation for coaches will be developed on 11.73 acres of land at a cost of ₹74.66 crore. Once fully developed, the complex will feature parking space for around 150 cars alongside a separate two-wheeler parking area.
"This complex will groom our budding talent and cater to sports enthusiasts and residents," said Krishan Karunesh, chief executive officer of the Noida Authority. The new complex is expected to provide athletes with advanced training facilities for state, national, and international competitions, offering an alternative to the often overcrowded stadium in Sector 21A.
The Sector 123 site was originally intended to be a dumping ground. However, following stiff opposition from local residents and villagers, the proposed landfill was relocated. The excavation pit at the site was filled and covered, and the land remained vacant since 2018 until the authority decided to repurpose it for sports.
