Newlywed Woman Found Dead in Lodhi Colony, Family Alleges Murder Over Dowry

A 28-year-old newlywed woman was found dead on Saturday evening after falling from a building at Palika Kunj, a residential society in Lodhi Colony, Delhi. The family of the victim, identified as Akriti Sutar, has rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that she was murdered by her husband and his relatives over unmet dowry demands.
Akriti, who worked as a Sales Executive for a private company in Chhatarpur, was found lying on the ground around 9:00 PM on Saturday. The incident took place approximately 10 kilometers away from her home in Pushp Vihar.
According to her family, Akriti had married her husband, Arastu Sikka, on April 24 after an eight-year relationship. Her husband is currently unemployed.
Akriti's uncle, Mananjay Sutar, stated that the family received a call from her husband around 8:00 PM on Saturday claiming she had gone missing. Approximately 90 minutes later, the Delhi Police informed the family that her body had been found at the Lodhi Colony residential society.
The family strongly dismissed any suggestion of suicide, pointing out that Akriti had just returned to her office that day after being on leave. She had also hosted a small party for her colleagues earlier in the day.
Furthermore, Akriti had spoken to her mother around 6:00 PM on Saturday. During the call, she sounded normal, spoke about the office party, and mentioned she was on her way home. Her 24-year-old brother, Amay Sutar, described her as mentally strong and insisted she would never take her own life.
Instead, the family pointed to ongoing domestic trouble. They alleged that Arastu Sikka and his relatives had been pressuring Akriti for a dowry of Rs 20 lakh. They claimed she was subjected to repeated harassment and threats since the wedding.
The family also alleged that Arastu had threatened to kill Akriti on multiple occasions, adding that the couple had a serious argument just two days before her death.
The Delhi Police stated that they are currently investigating the matter from all angles.
