Moving Car Catches Fire on Mayur Vihar Flyover, Occupants Escape Unharmed

A moving car caught fire and was engulfed in flames on the Mayur Vihar flyover in east Delhi on Sunday afternoon, forcing its two occupants to make a quick escape. The occupants managed to exit the vehicle unharmed just moments before the fire spread, and no injuries or casualties were reported.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the department received a call alerting them to the blaze at approximately 2:06 pm. Following the alert, the DFS dispatched one fire tender along with a team of around six firefighters to the spot on the flyover.

The firefighting team arrived quickly and managed to bring the raging fire under control by 2:20 pm. Although the vehicle was severely damaged by the flames, both people inside escaped without any physical harm.

This incident follows a similar vehicle fire that occurred earlier in May, when another moving car caught fire near the Bhajanpura metro station in northeast Delhi. In that previous instance, all of the occupants also managed to escape safely before the vehicle was completely engulfed by flames.

Following the incident on the Mayur Vihar flyover, fire officials shared common causes for such vehicle fires. According to the DFS, these blazes are frequently triggered by electrical short circuits, overheated engines, fuel or engine oil leaks, poor vehicle maintenance, and unauthorised electrical modifications, such as the installation of heavy music systems.

To prevent such hazards, fire officials advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are serviced regularly. They also cautioned drivers against storing inflammable items inside their cars during periods of extreme heat. Items such as power banks, perfume cans, and lighters should not be left inside vehicles, as high temperatures can significantly increase the risk of a fire breaking out.
