Manjinder Singh Sirsa Orders Delhi DMs To Map Pollution Hotspots

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday directed all District Magistrates across Delhi to undertake a comprehensive mapping of pollution hotspots. The directive, issued during a review meeting on June 25, 2026, is aimed at establishing a highly coordinated and localized approach to improve the capital's air quality.

According to the minister, dust pollution remains one of the most significant contributors to the deteriorating air quality in Delhi. To tackle this persistent environmental challenge, Sirsa instructed the District Magistrates to proactively identify the specific sources of dust generation within their respective administrative boundaries.

The minister emphasized that addressing the issue requires joint efforts across various administrative levels. He directed the District Magistrates to collaborate closely with all concerned government departments to ensure that effective mitigation measures are implemented on the ground. This cooperative strategy is expected to streamline the response to pollution sources.

"Dust pollution remains one of the most significant contributors to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. Every DM must proactively identify sources of dust generation and work with all departments concerned to implement effective mitigation measures," Sirsa said after chairing the review meeting.

During the review meeting, Sirsa highlighted several key areas that require immediate attention. He noted that whether the issue is damaged roads, active construction activities, or poor maintenance of public spaces, every source of dust must be tackled directly. He urged officials to ensure that all actions taken are coordinated and result-oriented.

The new directive tasks the District Magistrates with leading the local response to dust pollution, marking a shift toward more targeted and localized environmental management. By mapping the hotspots, the Delhi administration hopes to deploy resources more effectively to curb the rising pollution levels across the capital.
