Man dies after plaster falls from 19th floor of Arihant Ambar in Greater Noida

A 46-year-old resident of Arihant Ambar society in Greater Noida West died on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after concrete plaster fell from a 19th-floor balcony and struck him as he rode his motorcycle. The victim, Vikas Chawla, was leaving the residential complex when the incident occurred around 4 p.m.
According to Amrish Kumar, the 40-year-old secretary of the society’s Apartment Owners’ Association (AOA), Chawla was exiting the gates on his motorcycle to buy items for his home. The falling plaster caused Chawla to lose balance, and his head struck the exhaust area of a nearby wall. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Chawla was the sole earning member of his family. He is survived by his wife, parents, and two children, who are a class 12 student and a five-year-old son.
The fatal incident has highlighted long-standing safety concerns at the high-rise society. Kumar stated that plaster had been falling from balconies and other parts of the buildings since October 2022. Although the flats were handed over to owners in 2019, residents have repeatedly raised complaints about the lack of maintenance.
In April 2023, the builder reportedly signed a written agreement promising to carry out repair and painting work before handing the society over to the AOA. However, residents allege the builder repeatedly delayed the work. The AOA eventually approached the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to resolve the dispute.
Kumar noted that some repair work started seven months ago but was quickly halted. On May 2, the residents sent a complaint regarding the builder to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). With no action taken, residents held a meeting on May 24 and decided to form a tender committee to invite bids for the repairs themselves.
Following the accident, local police arrested a maintenance manager. A case has been registered under Section 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence.
