Man Arrested For Rs 18 Crore Bank Fraud Using Forged Vivek Vihar Property Documents

The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a 53-year-old man, Sanjeev Dixit, who allegedly cheated multiple banks of more than Rs 18 crore by using forged documents of a property in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar as collateral. The arrest took place on Thursday, ending a search for the suspect who had been evading law enforcement for nearly nine years.

According to police officials, Dixit, who also goes by the alias Sanjay Sharma, was arrested in connection with a cheating and forgery case that was originally registered in 2013 at the Economic Offences Wing police station. He had been on the run since 2017 after escaping from the custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Following his escape, a Delhi court declared him a proclaimed offender.

Investigators working on the case eventually discovered that the absconding accused was already lodged inside Tihar Jail in connection with a separate, unrelated criminal matter. This discovery allowed the Delhi Police to formally execute his arrest on Thursday.

The long-standing case was initiated based on a complaint filed by Usha Rani Sethi, the actual owner of the Vivek Vihar property. Sethi alleged that Dixit and his associates had fraudulently transferred her property. This transfer was executed using a forged sale deed in February 2013.

During the course of the investigation, police officers uncovered the method behind the fraud. They found that Dixit and his associates had arranged for an unidentified woman to impersonate Sethi. This impersonator accompanied them to the office of the sub-registrar to facilitate the signing of the forged sale deed.

Once the property was fraudulently transferred, Dixit used the forged documents as collateral to secure loans. By presenting the falsified papers to multiple banks, he managed to obtain loans totaling more than Rs 18 crore before his fraudulent activities were uncovered.
