LG TS Sandhu Outlines Four Pillar Vision For Viksit Dilli At DDA Meeting

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu officially outlined a comprehensive four-pillar vision aimed at building a 'Viksit Dilli', or Developed Delhi, during a key meeting held in New Delhi.

The Lieutenant Governor chaired the meeting of the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) advisory council, where officials gathered to review the city's long-term urban development strategy and address pressing issues.

The newly proposed vision for the national capital rests on four distinct pillars. These are environmental sustainability, quality of life, economic and cultural vibrancy, and inclusive urban growth. According to the strategy, these pillars will serve as a roadmap to guide planned development across more than 1,400 square kilometers of the city's territory.

The council's planning strategy covers various designated planning zones across the city. These zones include transit-oriented development (TOD) projects, land pooling areas, developed residential areas, and the Yamuna riverfront revitalization initiatives.

During the meeting, the DDA advisory council reviewed several major challenges that are currently confronting the urban landscape of New Delhi. Chief among these concerns is the acute shortage of affordable housing options for residents, alongside the proliferation of slums and unauthorised colonies across the city.

The advisory council also discussed critical infrastructure and environmental problems, such as traffic congestion, pollution, water security, and the threat of urban flooding. Additionally, the long-term strategy aims to tackle the redevelopment of existing built-up areas and ensure the conservation of historic heritage structures.

Highlighting the environmental aspects of the new development roadmap, Lieutenant Governor Sandhu detailed the specific measures that would be prioritized under the sustainability pillar.

"Under the environmental sustainability pillar, the focus will be on increasing per-capita green cover, developing a vibrant riverfront and creating an interconnected green-and-blue infrastructure network," Sandhu stated.
