Labourer killed and two injured in Jasola Pocket 1 wall collapse

A 24-year-old labourer died and two others were injured on Friday afternoon when a side wall of a dilapidated house collapsed during demolition in Jasola Pocket 1, south Delhi. The collapse trapped the workers under debris before they were rescued by emergency services.
Delhi Police identified the deceased worker as Vijay. The two injured labourers, identified as Nannu Sharma and Chandrapal, both aged 40, are currently undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the incident at 1:28 p.m. on Friday and dispatched three fire tenders along with rescue teams to the site. Emergency responders pulled the three trapped men from the debris and rushed them to the hospital, where Vijay was declared dead. The search and rescue operation was completed by approximately 3:30 p.m.
Following the incident, the local subdivisional magistrate sealed the premises. Delhi Police registered a case under sections 280 (making atmosphere noxious to health), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police have apprehended the demolition contractor, Shamshuddin, from Jamia Nagar. Meanwhile, the owner of the house, Khurshid, remains absconding.
A senior police officer stated that investigators are working to ascertain the exact circumstances of the collapse, including whether the demolition work complied with prescribed safety measures and statutory requirements.
On Friday night, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office announced that the Delhi Government will provide financial assistance to the injured and the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
