IMD forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph in Delhi on Saturday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph for Delhi on Saturday. The weather agency also predicted that the national capital would witness partly cloudy skies alongside the possibility of light rain or thundershowers during the day.
The expected weather conditions in Delhi are part of a wider weather pattern active across northern India. According to the IMD, similar thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds was also forecast for the neighbouring regions of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab on Saturday.
To ensure public safety, the IMD issued a set of advisories for residents in Delhi and other affected areas. The weather department advised people to stay indoors during lightning activity and specifically warned against taking shelter under trees to prevent physical hazards.
Additionally, the IMD urged commuters and residents to check local traffic conditions before travelling. The agency recommended avoiding waterlogged locations and steering clear of vulnerable structures that could be impacted by the gusty winds.
The regional weather changes coincide with the expected advancement of the southwest monsoon. The IMD stated that conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further over the next three to four days, moving into parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar.
While Delhi braces for wind and light rain, other parts of the country are experiencing more extreme conditions. The IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, while isolated extremely heavy rainfall was expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Furthermore, heavy rainfall was predicted at isolated places in states such as Bihar, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, severe heatwave conditions were likely to persist in isolated parts of east Uttar Pradesh.
