IMD forecasts heavy rain and thunderstorms for Delhi and Haryana on Saturday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for Delhi and adjoining areas of Haryana, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning on Saturday. The warning is part of a larger forecast detailing active monsoon conditions across northern, western, central, and eastern India.

According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The weather department also forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places within the national capital region and neighbouring parts of Haryana.

The intensification of weather activity is linked to the advancement of the southwest monsoon. The IMD reported that the northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.

Conditions are expected to remain highly favourable for the monsoon to advance further. Over the next two to three days, the system is projected to cover more parts of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and the remaining areas of Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD forecast that active monsoon conditions will continue to impact large parts of the country over the next three to four days. This system is expected to bring widespread rainfall across northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, and peninsular India.

In addition to Delhi and Haryana, several other northern states are preparing for severe weather. The IMD noted that heavy rainfall will continue across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Shimla Meteorological Centre has already issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across Himachal Pradesh from July 2 to 5, noting that the southwest monsoon has now covered the entire state.

Other regions expected to see thunderstorms and lightning on Saturday alongside Delhi and Haryana include Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana.
