Heavy rain batters Noida and Delhi-NCR as IMD issues yellow alert till July 9

Heavy rain battered Noida and the wider Delhi-NCR region on Tuesday, flooding roads, disrupting flight operations, and damaging vehicles, which prompted the India Meteorological Department to issue a yellow weather alert. In Delhi's East of Kailash area near the National Heart Institute, a large tree collapsed onto two cars during the storm, causing significant damage.

The adverse weather triggered severe traffic congestion across the region, leading to longer travel times for commuters. Airlines operating in the national capital issued travel advisories warning passengers of potential delays and urging travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Following the Tuesday downpour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "Yellow" warning for July 7, 8, and 9. During this period, Noida and adjoining NCR districts—including Faridabad, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad—are expected to experience cloudy skies, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.

For July 7, the weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with a spell of very light to light rain at many places, alongside moderate rain at isolated locations. These showers are expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph during the afternoon, with another spell of rain anticipated at night.

Similar weather conditions are likely on July 8, with light rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected in the afternoon. On July 9, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places during the morning and forenoon, followed by very light rain at night.

Throughout this period, temperatures in Delhi-NCR are likely to remain between 32 and 37 degrees Celsius. The weather warning level is scheduled to be reduced to "Green - No Warning" on July 10 and 11, though light rain remains possible. Residents have been advised to remain cautious due to the potential for lightning strikes and gusty winds.
