Gurugram driver arrested after fatal SUV crash kills Noida-bound commuter in Vasant Kunj

The Delhi Police have arrested a 30-year-old driver after a fatal hit-and-run accident in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi, which killed a 34-year-old event management professional who was commuting to Noida. The crash occurred on June 25, and the driver was apprehended by authorities on Saturday.
The victim, Sarthak Mattoo, was a resident of Gurugram. On the morning of June 25, Mattoo was traveling on his motorcycle from Gurugram to Noida for office-related work when his vehicle was struck by an SUV.
Following the collision, the Vasant Kunj South police station received a PCR call from a witness who reported that a car had hit a motorcycle, leaving the rider critically injured. Mattoo was immediately transported to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
The victim's family members shared that they had been preparing to celebrate Mattoo's 34th birthday on June 27. Instead, they received a phone call at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, informing them about the fatal accident.
The Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They initiated an investigation to locate the driver and the vehicle involved in the crash.
By examining CCTV footage from the area, investigators managed to trace the registration details of the SUV. The vehicle was registered to a private company based in Bengaluru.
Further inquiry revealed that the SUV had been leased to 29-year-old Sagar Saha, who is employed in Bengaluru but currently resides in Gurugram. When questioned by the police, Saha disclosed that his friend, Apurv Singh, had been driving the vehicle. Singh is a private firm employee who also resides in Gurugram.
Following this lead, police apprehended Singh on Saturday. The accused was sent for a mandatory medical examination, and the SUV involved in the crash was officially seized by the police. Officers stated that a further investigation into the incident is currently under way.
