Gurgaon Records 83 mm of Rain as NCR Air Quality Improves to Cleanest Level of 2026

Heavy rainfall in Gurgaon and the wider National Capital Region over a two-day period leading up to Wednesday afternoon in July 2026 has resulted in the region's cleanest air quality of the year.

Gurgaon recorded 83 mm of rainfall till Wednesday morning, contributing to a sharp drop in temperatures and helping bring the regional Air Quality Index (AQI) down to a 'Satisfactory' level of 59. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), this is the lowest 4 pm reading recorded in 2026 so far, surpassing the previous low of 73 recorded on June 12.

In Gurgaon, the heavy downpour caused maximum temperatures to plunge by 9.4 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures dipped by up to 4.8 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of the region also saw significant rainfall. The Ridge weather station recorded 54.3 mm of rain over a 24-hour period, bringing its July total to 79.1 mm, which is 154 percent above normal. Ayanagar recorded 51 mm of rain this month, while the base station at Safdarjung recorded 31.52 mm.

The rain brought a sharp drop in temperatures across the region. At Safdarjung, the maximum temperature settled at 30.8 degrees Celsius, which is 5.8 degrees below normal and 6.4 notches below Tuesday's reading. The minimum temperature stood at 25.4 degrees Celsius, which was 4.6 degrees lower than Tuesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the widespread rainfall has been driven by a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh, along with favorable conditions for the further advance of the southwest monsoon.

The IMD has issued a yellow weather alert for Thursday. The weather office has forecast generally cloudy skies with more spells of light rain and thunderstorms.
