Greater Noida police register FIR after protest disrupts GIMS hospital services

The Greater Noida police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against outsourced employees and external individuals following allegations of violence, property damage, and the disruption of medical services during an ongoing protest at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida. The FIR was registered on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following a major escalation of the protest on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The case was filed based on a complaint by GIMS Director Brig (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta. The outsourced employees at the institute have been staging an indefinite protest since June 15, 2026, demanding the regularisation of their services.
According to the police, hospital administration officials made repeated efforts on June 24 to persuade the protesting workers to move their demonstration away from the hospital's main entrance and hall. The relocation was requested to ensure that medical services could function smoothly for patients.
However, some protesters allegedly refused to relocate and became aggressive. Police claimed that external individuals and members of various organisations were called to the site. These individuals allegedly threatened hospital staff, used abusive language, and attempted to break open a gate inside the hospital's main building.
Officials stated that when some employees agreed to move to another designated location on campus, other protesters and outside supporters engaged in pushing and scuffling. This physical confrontation prompted police intervention.
The police alleged that GIMS staff were abused, assaulted, and threatened, while government property was damaged during the commotion. The incident disrupted the treatment of patients, including those in critical condition, and created a law-and-order situation. The FIR includes charges of obstructing official duties, damaging government property, disrupting medical services, and creating a law-and-order situation.
In a video statement, Dr. Gupta denied online allegations that police had used a lathi-charge or that protesters were injured. He stated that some videos circulating with these claims were untrue and aimed at defaming the institution. He urged the employees to return to work to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Meanwhile, some hospital staff alleged that the electricity supply and CCTV cameras at the protest site were switched off late at night, and that the main and emergency gates were closed, causing confusion. Police stated that outpatient and other medical services have since resumed functioning smoothly after the departure of some protesters and outside supporters.
