Four teenagers feared dead after being swept away in Yamuna River near Hiranki village

Four teenagers are feared dead after they went missing while bathing in the Yamuna River near Hiranki village in Delhi's Outer North district on Sunday, July 12, 2026. A massive search operation was launched by emergency services to locate the missing children.
According to the Delhi Police, authorities received a PCR call reporting the incident at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday. The call was made from Hiranki village, alerting the police that several youth had been swept away by the river's currents.
An officer stated that a group of five boys, all aged between 14 and 15 years, had gone down to the Yamuna River to take a bath. While they were bathing, four of the teenagers were suddenly caught by strong water currents and began to drift away.
The fifth boy managed to avoid being swept away and immediately raised an alarm to get help. Hearing his cries, local residents and workers from nearby agricultural fields rushed to the riverbank to rescue the drowning teenagers. However, by the time the locals reached the water, the strong currents had already carried the four boys away.
Following the PCR call, emergency search teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. A joint rescue operation was initiated on Sunday evening to search the river and locate the missing teenagers.
The search and rescue effort involves multiple specialized agencies. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the Delhi Fire Services, and the Delhi Police have been working continuously to trace the boys.
"Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Services and Delhi Police have been carrying out a search operation since Sunday evening," a police officer said.
The officer added that all possible efforts are being made by the rescue teams to locate the missing children. The search operation remained active as authorities continued their efforts to find the teenagers.
