Five Gurugram Family Members Cremated After Fatal Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire

Five members of a Gurugram family who died in a Delhi hotel fire were cremated at the Sector-32 crematorium on Thursday, following a tragedy that claimed the lives of eight relatives. The family, residents of Sector 46, Gurugram, had traveled to Delhi to visit an ailing relative before the fatal fire broke out at their temporary lodging in Malviya Nagar.
The deceased family members from Gurugram were identified as 48-year-old chartered accountant Vivek Agrawal, his wife Tarjani, their daughters Jivisha and Variya, and Vivek's mother Premlata. Three other relatives also perished in the blaze: Jawari Lal Agrawal, 70, and Kamla Agrawal, 68, both residents of Gulab Bari in Ajmer, and Jhumri Lal Goel, a marble trader from Kishangarh.
The group had traveled to Delhi to visit Vivek's father, Radhe Shyam Agrawal, who had been undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Saket for several days. While in the city, the family stayed at the Flourish Stay B&B, located in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar, where the fire occurred.
On Thursday, the bodies of the five Gurugram residents were brought to their home in Sector 46 after postmortem examinations were completed at AIIMS Delhi. Around 3:15 p.m., the bodies were taken to the Sector-32 crematorium, where a large gathering of relatives, friends, and neighbors assembled to perform the last rites.
During the funeral services, Vivek's last rites were performed by his cousin, while Tarjani's cremation was conducted by her brother. Premlata was cremated by her brother-in-law, and the two young daughters, Jivisha and Variya, were cremated by their cousins.
Mahender Garg, Vivek’s cousin, spoke of the devastating impact the tragedy has had on the family. Garg recalled receiving a phone call from Vivek just 10 minutes before the situation turned fatal. According to Garg, Vivek was frantically saying, "I am trapped in the basement. Please send the fire brigade quickly and get me out of here."
Reflecting on the loss of his eight relatives, Garg said, "My entire family has been destroyed. We never imagined something like this could happen to us."
