Fire guts 200 labourer housing containers near Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi

A major fire broke out in a temporary three-storied metal container-based cluster near Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday. The cluster housed scores of labourers who are involved in construction activities in the central Delhi area. The blaze gutted around 200 container-based rooms as firefighters battled the flames.
The Delhi Fire Services control room received the initial call regarding the fire at 3:02 AM on Wednesday. In response to the emergency call, the department immediately rushed two fire tenders to the site near Udyog Bhawan to begin dousing the flames.
However, the fire spread rapidly through the temporary three-storied metal structure, quickly engulfing a large portion of the accommodation. Because of the rapid spread of the fire, officials dispatched an additional 18 fire trucks to the scene to support the firefighting efforts.
Firefighters worked for three hours to contain the blaze. The fire was officially brought under control at 6:05 AM. Following this, Delhi Fire Services personnel conducted extensive cooling operations at the site, which continued until late Wednesday morning.
Despite the scale of the fire, no residents or construction labourers sustained injuries. The only reported injury was to a fireman, identified by the single name Ashish, who suffered a minor eye injury during the firefighting operation. Ashish was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
An unnamed Delhi Fire Services officer stated that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The officer noted that the temporary metal containers had electric wires running through them, and several occupants were using LPG cylinders at the labour accommodation site.
