Fire destroys 200 temporary labourer rooms near Udyog Bhawan in Delhi

A fire broke out in a temporary, three-storied metal container-based cluster housing construction labourers near Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The fast-spreading blaze gutted approximately 200 container-based rooms and took nearly three hours of firefighting operations to be brought under control.
The incident began when the Delhi Fire Services control room received an emergency call regarding the fire at 3:02 AM. Officials immediately rushed two fire tenders to the location to address the situation.
As the fire spread quickly and engulfed a large portion of the temporary three-storied metal structure, the responding teams realized additional support was necessary. Consequently, 18 more fire trucks were dispatched to the spot to help contain the spreading flames.
In total, 20 fire tenders were deployed to the site near Udyog Bhawan. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 6:05 AM. Following this, emergency workers continued cooling operations at the site until late Wednesday morning to ensure the area was completely safe.
No injuries or casualties were reported among the scores of construction labourers who resided in the accommodation. However, a fireman, identified by the single name Ashish, sustained a minor eye injury during the active firefighting operations. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained by authorities. A Delhi Fire Services officer, who asked not to be named, stated that the temporary metal containers had electric wires running through them. Additionally, several occupants were known to be using LPG cylinders at the labour accommodation site, which may have contributed to the situation.
