Fire damages abandoned Kingdom of Dreams in Gurugram Sector 29

A fire broke out at the abandoned and sealed Kingdom of Dreams entertainment hub in Sector 29, Gurugram, on Wednesday afternoon, destroying a decorative gate and nearby furniture. Fire department officials spotted the smoke at approximately 1:30 PM and rushed to the site to control the blaze.

Six fire engines were deployed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes. According to Fire Safety Officer Naresh Kumar from the Sector 29 fire station, a crowd of people had gathered at the spot as the flames spread.

"The decorative gate, which had a lot of thermocol, was up in flames… and it spread to furniture nearby," Kumar said. He added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The incident has drawn fresh attention to the derelict state of the once-celebrated venue. Located near the IFFCO Chowk Metro Station, the expansive six-acre facility has stood abandoned since July 2022, when it was sealed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).

The sealing followed the termination of the land lease agreement due to a massive financial dispute over non-payment of rent. The operators of Kingdom of Dreams, Great Indian Nautanki Company, had leased the prime commercial land from the HSVP (then known as HUDA) in 2008 at a fixed monthly rent of Rs 36 lakh.

However, the management severely defaulted on these payments over the years. By the time the premises were sealed, the operators owed over Rs 100 crore in lease dues. The HSVP subsequently imposed hefty penalties, bringing the total outstanding amount to approximately Rs 208 crore. Despite receiving numerous notices and having a history of financial irregularities dating back to 2014, the management failed to clear the accumulated arrears.

This is the third fire to occur at the sealed structure. On July 26, 2023, a fire broke out in the facility’s basement. Another blaze broke out in March 2025, which required at least 10 fire tenders to douse the flames.
