FIR filed after protest at Greater Noida GIMS disrupts medical services

An FIR was registered on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following allegations of violence, damage to government property, and the disruption of medical services during a protest by outsourced employees at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida. The protest, which began on June 15, escalated on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, when demonstrators allegedly refused to move away from the hospital's main entrance.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by GIMS Director Brig (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta. Outsourced employees at the institute had been staging an indefinite protest to demand the regularization of their services.
According to the police, hospital administration made repeated efforts on Wednesday to persuade the protesters to relocate their demonstration from the main entrance and hall to ensure patients could safely access medical services. However, some protesters refused to move and became aggressive.
Police stated that external individuals and members of various organizations were called to the site. These individuals allegedly threatened hospital staff, used abusive language, and attempted to break open a gate inside the hospital's main building.
When some employees agreed to shift to another location on the campus, others, alongside the outside supporters, allegedly engaged in pushing and scuffling, which prompted police intervention.
The police alleged that hospital staff were abused, assaulted, and threatened, and government property was damaged during the commotion. The incident disrupted the treatment of patients, including those in critical condition, and affected local law and order.
Following the incident, GIMS Director Dr. Rakesh Gupta released a video statement denying circulating claims of a police lathi-charge or injuries to protesters. He urged the employees to return to work to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Meanwhile, some hospital staff alleged that the electricity supply and CCTV cameras at the protest site were switched off late Wednesday night, and the main and emergency gates were closed, causing confusion.
The police confirmed that outpatient and other medical services at GIMS have returned to functioning smoothly following the departure of some protesters and outside supporters.
