DSEU partners with MEL to launch animation and gaming degree courses in Delhi

The Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) has signed a five-year agreement with MEL Training & Assessments Limited to introduce university-recognised degree programmes in creative arts for Class XII graduates in Delhi. The partnership aims to equip local students with specialized skills in animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR).

Under the newly signed agreement, MEL Training & Assessments Limited, which is the parent company of the Maya Academy of Advanced Creativity (MAAC), will take charge of designing the curriculum for these courses. Additionally, MAAC will handle industry placements for the students. DSEU will support the partnership by providing the required campus infrastructure, conducting all examinations, and awarding the final formal degrees to the students.

These upcoming programmes are designed to combine industry-focused curricula and placement support with formal university degrees. The courses will be fully aligned with both the National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Credit Framework to ensure academic and professional standardization.

This educational initiative comes at a critical time for India's creative and cultural industries, which are currently experiencing rapid growth. According to official figures, the creative sector in the country is growing at an annual rate of 16% to 17%. Experts project that the national creative industry will require approximately 20 lakh skilled professionals by the year 2030.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the broader vision behind this partnership, noting that it is part of three interconnected initiatives aimed at boosting the local creative sector. These initiatives include the newly introduced university degree pathways, a national film and design hackathon, and the formation of an industry federation.

According to Minister Sood, these strategic steps are specifically designed to transform Delhi into a powerhouse for the "orange economy," which encompasses various creative and cultural industries. The implementation of these industry-linked pathways is expected to begin soon, offering a direct route for Class XII pass-outs in Delhi to enter the creative workforce.
