Dr. Simarpreet Singh Anand Found Dead in Civil Lines Hospital Duty Room

Delhi Police have launched an investigation after a 35-year-old senior resident doctor was found dead inside a duty room at Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital in Civil Lines, Delhi, on Sunday. Dr. Simarpreet Singh Anand, who served in the hospital's anaesthesia department, left behind a three-page suicide note and a diary detailing severe stress over family opposition to his marriage.
The incident was discovered after police received a PCR call and found Dr. Anand unconscious in duty room number 109. The duty room door was locked from the inside and had to be forced open by hospital staff at approximately 9 am on Sunday. Dr. Anand was immediately rushed to the emergency department, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
According to police investigators, a cannula was found inserted in Dr. Anand's left hand. A technician assistant had reportedly inserted the cannula at around 10 pm on July 4 at the doctor's request. Dr. Anand had been on a night duty shift that ran from 8 pm on July 4 to 8 am on July 5.
The district crime team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) from Rohini were called to the scene to conduct an examination. Investigators recovered syringes, empty drug vials, and a black bag containing the doctor's diary and the three-page note.
In the note, Dr. Anand stated that he was under immense stress because he was unable to marry his colleague, who is from Madhya Pradesh. The note explained that their respective families strongly opposed the marriage because the couple belonged to different castes.
Dr. Anand, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab, had been working in the hospital's anaesthesia unit for about three years. Police officials stated that his family members have been informed of his death, and a detailed probe into the circumstances remains underway.
