Delhi youth embrace bedazzling parties at local cafes to combat digital fatigue

Young professionals and Gen Z residents in Delhi are increasingly turning to bedazzling parties at local cafes on weekends to combat digital fatigue. The hands-on crafting trend, which involves customizing everyday items like drink cans, keychains, and bags with rhinestones and gems, has emerged as a popular alternative to traditional social meetups in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Organizers of these weekend sessions report a surge in interest as attendees look for tactile ways to unwind. Arunima Duggal, the founder of SoLuv Events, explained that the drive behind the trend is a desire for self-expression. "People don’t just want to buy things anymore; they want to make them their own," Duggal said, adding that the activity is highly relaxing for participants.
The workshops cater to both beginners and regular crafters. Niyati Nagpal, co-founder of the art workshop group DoodleDen, stated that bedazzling has become one of their most popular current offerings because the sessions are creative, social, and highly personalized.
According to hosts, the repetitive action of applying stones provides a mental break from screens. Vishakha Panchal from Leela Arts by Vishakha noted that the process is deeply therapeutic, helping improve concentration and patience. Panchal explained that even in a buzzing room, the focused rhythm of picking up and placing each gem allows participants to enter a private mental stillness.
The trend also aligns with a broader revival of the Y2K aesthetic. Sona Agarwal from UnClub Experiences observed that the return of maximalism is visible across the city, from clothing brands to restaurant decor. Agarwal added that because the finished, sparkling items look great in pictures, they have strong appeal in the age of Instagram.
While art workshops typically attract more women, Agarwal noted that some men in the 20-25 age group have also joined the can-bedazzling sessions.
Local participants have welcomed the change to their weekend routines. Sakshi, an attendee who tried a workshop with friends, described the activity as a refreshing break from usual plans. Similarly, Suhana, a marketing professional, shared that she and a friend bedazzled a canvas together, calling it a great way to relax, chat, and create a unique keepsake.
