Delhi to host ISF World School Wrestling and Badminton Championships in 2027

Delhi is set to host the ISF World School Wrestling Championship and the ISF World School Badminton Championship for the first time in 2027. The announcement follows the official signing of a tripartite hosting agreement in Delhi, which was executed by the Delhi government, the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), and the International School Sport Federation (ISF).

The landmark agreement was signed in the presence of Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood. The two international championships will feature both wrestling and badminton competitions, drawing widespread participation from across the globe to the national capital.

According to the tournament details, the events are expected to bring together thousands of young student-athletes representing more than 50 countries. This will mark the first time that Delhi hosts these specific global school sports championships.

Speaking on the significance of the tripartite agreement, Education Minister Ashish Sood stated that the memorandum of understanding reflected Delhi’s growing stature as an international sporting destination.

"This agreement will boost the morale of our young athletes, improve their performance and provide them with exposure to world-class sporting facilities and international competition," Sood said during the event.

Sood further noted that hosting the global championships would strengthen Delhi’s overall sports ecosystem. He emphasized that the successful execution of these tournaments would further establish the city as a highly capable host for major national and international sporting events in the years to come.

In addition to boosting local sports infrastructure, the championships are expected to provide Indian school athletes with valuable international exposure. Officials stated that the event aims to promote a stronger sporting culture among students and mark another significant step towards India’s long-term vision of becoming a global sporting powerhouse.
