Delhi Police file chargesheet in 11 days against Janakpuri rape accused

The Delhi Police have filed a chargesheet within 11 days of registering an FIR against a man accused of sexually exploiting a woman under the pretext of marriage, assaulting her, and blackmailing her in West Delhi's Janakpuri.
The swift legal action, confirmed by officials on Wednesday, followed the registration of the case at the Janakpuri police station. The complainant alleged that the accused concealed his religion, established a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage, assaulted her, and threatened to upload her private photographs and videos on social media.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 69, 351(2), and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Hareshwar Swami stated that the accused was arrested shortly after the FIR was registered. The police seized his mobile phone for forensic examination and he was remanded to judicial custody. DCP Swami noted that investigators found sufficient technical evidence supporting the allegations.
During the investigation, the police recorded the complainant’s statement before a judicial magistrate under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Investigators also inspected the alleged crime scene, prepared a site plan, and gathered oral, documentary, and electronic evidence.
According to DCP Swami, the call detail records and location data of the accused and the complainant showed they were in continuous contact. The police also collected the workplace attendance records of the accused to support their investigation.
Officials stated that the evidence collected helped the investigating officer complete the probe and file the chargesheet within 11 days of the FIR. The certified call detail records and the forensic science laboratory report of the seized mobile phone are currently awaited and will be submitted to the court through a supplementary chargesheet.
