Delhi Police Avoid Confrontation During Cockroach Janata Party Protest At Jantar Mantar

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Delhi Police adopted an accommodating approach to manage a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, successfully avoiding any confrontation with the demonstrators. Senior police officers had instructed personnel to avoid clashing with the young protesters who gathered in support of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived in Delhi via the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
Dipke arrived at the IGI Airport around 7:30 a.m. from the United States via London. To prevent chaos at the Parliament Street police station, where protest permissions are typically requested 24 hours in advance, the police facilitated the permit directly at the airport. DCP (IGI Airport) Vichitra Veer handed Dipke a permission letter allowing a one-day protest at Jantar Mantar between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. after Dipke signed a routine declaration.
Outside Gate 16 of the airport, police set up barricades to separate media and supporters from arriving passengers. DCP (Vigilance) Ankit Singh and DCP (South West) Amit Goel supervised the security arrangements. After a brief delay and intervention by officers and GMR Group officials, three taxis carrying Dipke and his associates were allowed to enter the VIP lane.
Before leaving the airport, Dipke spoke briefly to reporters, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister following the suicide of five students. He then traveled to Jantar Mantar, addressing his supporters on an Instagram Live broadcast to urge a peaceful demonstration.
To maintain order along the 20-kilometer route from the airport to Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police, CRPF, and other paramilitary forces deployed extensive security. Around 2,000 police personnel were stationed in the New Delhi district, which was divided into 12 zones managed by DCP-rank officers.
At Jantar Mantar, social activist Sonam Wangchuk joined Dipke for the protest. Senior police officers, including DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma, Additional DCP Anand Mishra, and Joint Commissioners Deepak Purohit and Nupur Prasad, monitored the site and coordinated with CJP leaders to ensure the event proceeded smoothly.
