Delhi Police arrest two men and recover 12 stolen cars in inter-state bust

On June 7, the Delhi Police Crime Branch busted an inter-state auto theft gang with the arrest of a man at an MCD parking area behind a hotel in East Delhi, leading to the recovery of 12 stolen cars. The arrest of Gurwinder Singh Bainka, 37, of Tarn Taran, Punjab, occurred during an investigation into a vehicle theft case registered at the Prashant Vihar police station. A second suspect, Dashrath Bishnoi, 36, of Bikaner, Rajasthan, was later apprehended in Jodhpur.

According to the police, the gang purchased stolen vehicles from Delhi for around ₹4 lakh to ₹5 lakh. They then tampered with the engine and chassis numbers, prepared forged registration certificates, and resold them as genuine vehicles in Punjab and Rajasthan.

During the arrest in East Delhi, police recovered a stolen Hyundai Creta with fake registration plates and a forged registration certificate from Bainka's possession. Officers verified that the SUV was stolen in a case registered at the Prashant Vihar police station.

During interrogation, Bainka disclosed that he received stolen vehicles—including the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Thar, and Kia models—from suppliers and sold them in Punjab, particularly in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and other border districts.

Based on his disclosures, police teams conducted raids in Punjab and recovered several more stolen vehicles. Further investigation led police to Bishnoi, who was apprehended and arrested in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, leading to additional vehicle recoveries.

In total, police recovered 12 vehicles, including a Hyundai Creta, Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Harrier, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, and a Toyota Yaris. Several recovered vehicles had forged number plates, while some lacked registration plates entirely.

Police stated that Bainka previously operated a used-car business in Punjab and had been declared a proclaimed offender in a vehicle theft case registered at the Rani Bagh police station. He is allegedly involved in four criminal cases in Delhi and Punjab. Both accused are now in judicial custody.
