Delhi police arrest history-sheeter Mohammad Saleem after Badarpur shootout

The Delhi Police arrested a 48-year-old history-sheeter, Mohammad Saleem, following a shootout near the NTPC in Badarpur, Southeast Delhi, in the early hours of Friday. Saleem, who has been linked to more than 75 criminal cases, was shot in the left leg during the brief exchange of fire with the police.

According to police officials, the operation was initiated after they received a specific tip-off regarding Saleem's movements. The information indicated that the accused, a resident of Bareilly, would be arriving at the NTPC area in Badarpur to commit a burglary.

Based on this tip-off, a police team was deployed to the area to intercept him. Once Saleem arrived at the location, an informer successfully identified him, prompting the police team to move in and intercept his vehicle.

Upon being intercepted, a brief exchange of fire broke out between Saleem and the police officers. Saleem was shot in his left leg during the encounter, which allowed the police team to secure his arrest.

Following the shootout, the police shifted Saleem to Safdarjung Hospital, where he was admitted to receive medical treatment for his gunshot wound.

Saleem has an extensive criminal record. According to the police, his past involvements include the murder of Salim Pehlwan, who was a known criminal operating in northeast Delhi. Saleem had previously undergone an eight-year prison sentence for his role in that murder case.

Following the encounter on Friday morning, the police registered a new case against Saleem at the Badarpur police station.
