Delhi Metro Opens Ridge Interpretation Centre At Patel Chowk Station

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) opened the Delhi Ridge Interpretation Centre (DRIC) at the Patel Chowk Metro Station on Tuesday to highlight the ecological and historical importance of the Delhi Ridge. The new facility aims to raise public awareness and support conservation efforts for this fragile ecosystem, which is widely regarded as the city's "green lungs."

The establishment of the centre comes as part of a directive from the Supreme Court of India. The facility was set up following specific recommendations made by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), which operates under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Chandra Prakash Goyal, the chairman of the CEC, officially inaugurated the centre. During the event, Goyal emphasised the educational value of the new facility for the public.

"The centre will serve as an important landmark for those interested in the history and heritage of the Ridge. It is a significant step towards generating awareness about conserving this fragile ecosystem," Goyal said. He also noted that further developments and information related to the Delhi Ridge will be incorporated into the centre over time.

The Delhi Ridge plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall environmental balance of the national capital. Through various displays, the newly opened interpretation centre showcases the Ridge's unique ecological features, its rich biodiversity, and its historical relevance to the region.

For those interested in visiting, the Delhi Ridge Interpretation Centre will operate from Tuesday to Sunday. The daily timings are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The facility will remain closed to the public on Mondays and official public holidays.

While the centre is located inside the metro premises, it is also accessible to the general public. Visitors who are not using the metro system to travel can gain entry to the exhibition by purchasing a dedicated ticket for ₹11 directly at the Patel Chowk station.
