Delhi Jal Board announces water cuts in Saket and South Delhi on July 6 and 7

Residents in Saket and multiple other parts of South and East Delhi will face water supply disruptions on Monday, July 6, and Tuesday, July 7. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) announced that the shutdowns are necessary to undertake planned maintenance and pipeline interconnection work at the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant.
On Monday, July 6, major maintenance work on the 1,900-mm South Delhi main of the water treatment plant is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. The work will last for approximately eight hours. During this period, water supply in the affected areas will either remain completely unavailable or be available only at low pressure until the evening.
On Tuesday, July 7, the water supply will be disrupted from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. This shutdown is required to facilitate the interconnection of a newly laid 1,500-mm diameter mild steel water pipeline near Khizrabad Village along the Taimoor Nagar drain.
The Tuesday shutdown is expected to affect several underground reservoirs, including those at Sarai Kale Khan, Apollo, Sarita Vihar, and Greater Kailash (South). It will also impact areas supplied through the Malviya Nagar Water Services and the Greater Kailash Master Balancing Reservoir.
Along with Saket, localities expected to witness disruptions on Tuesday include Geetanjali Enclave, Hauz Rani, Sheikh Sarai, Malviya Nagar, Shivalik, Swami Nagar, Chirag Delhi, Lado Sarai, Adchini, Neb Sarai, Freedom Fighter Enclave, IGNOU area, Panchsheel Park, and Pushp Vihar. Other affected areas include Greater Kailash-II and III, CR Park, Srinivaspuri, Garhi, Hauz Khas, Gulmohar Park, Green Park, Mehrauli, and Vasant Kunj.
The Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 635 million liters per day. It treats raw water drawn from the Upper Ganga Canal at Muradnagar and plays a key role in meeting the daily water demand of the capital.
Apart from the pipeline work, the DJB is carrying out the construction of a boundary wall along the Taimoor Nagar drain. This work is being done in compliance with a Delhi High Court ruling from May to address concerns over waterlogging.
The DJB has advised residents in Saket and all other affected areas to store an adequate amount of water in advance. Water tankers will be made available upon request through the respective water emergency control rooms and the central control room during the shutdown period.
