Delhi Government to Install 15-Foot Atal Bihari Vajpayee Statue at Azadpur Roundabout

The Delhi government has announced plans to install a 15-foot-tall bronze statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Azadpur roundabout in North Delhi. The installation of the statue, which weighs 1,500 kilograms, is scheduled to be completed within the next three months.
The Public Works Department (PWD) will oversee the project, which includes both the installation of the monument and a broader beautification of the surrounding area. According to government officials, the PWD will undertake multiple infrastructure works at the Azadpur roundabout. These works will involve landscaping the roundabout, setting up improved lighting, and carrying out necessary repairs to a nearby foot over bridge.
Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood described the upcoming statue as a fitting tribute to the late statesman. He stated that the former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient was a symbol of visionary leadership, good governance, and politics in the nation’s interest. The minister added that Vajpayee's thoughts and life continue to inspire millions of people toward selfless service to the nation.
To execute the project, the PWD plans to hire an external company that will be responsible for both designing and installing the bronze sculpture. A formal tender has already been floated by the department in this regard. The official timeline dictates that all associated work, including the development of basic facilities and the beautification of the area, must be completed within a three-month period.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first Prime Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also served as the founding president of the party.
This civic project follows another recent statue installation in the capital. Earlier this year, CM Rekha Gupta inaugurated a statue of RSS founder K B Hedgewar in east Delhi, marking the 100th anniversary of the Sangh.
