Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa Orders Mapping Of Pollution Hotspots

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday directed all District Magistrates in Delhi to undertake a mapping of pollution hotspots and adopt a coordinated approach to tackle dust pollution. The directive is aimed at improving the capital's air quality by identifying and mitigating key sources of dust generation, such as damaged roads, construction activity, and poor maintenance.

The minister issued these directions after chairing a review meeting on air pollution in Delhi. Sirsa highlighted that dust pollution is currently one of the most significant contributors to the deteriorating air quality in the national capital.

To combat this environmental challenge, Sirsa stated that every District Magistrate must proactively identify the primary sources of dust generation within their respective districts. The DMs have been instructed to work closely with all concerned departments to ensure that effective mitigation measures are implemented on the ground.

"Dust pollution remains one of the most significant contributors to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. Every DM must proactively identify sources of dust generation and work with all departments concerned to implement effective mitigation measures," Sirsa said during the review meeting.

The minister emphasized that no source of dust should be overlooked. He noted that whether the pollution is caused by damaged roads, ongoing construction activity, or poor maintenance of public spaces, every single source of dust must be addressed.

To achieve this, Sirsa called for "coordinated and result-oriented action" from all administrative authorities. The District Magistrates will be responsible for mapping the hotspots and coordinating the multi-departmental response to ensure a visible improvement in Delhi's air quality.
