Delhi delivery rider Aakash Saroj spends half his income to feed the homeless

Aakash Saroj, a delivery rider who has been working in Delhi for six years, is dedicating nearly half of his monthly earnings to self-fund and distribute daily meals to homeless people. Saroj, who conducts his food drives in areas including Pitampura, Rohini, Jahangirpuri, GTB Nagar, and near the Kashmiri Gate flyover, spends approximately ₹15,000 of his ₹36,000 average monthly income on this initiative.

Saroj, who also creates content on social media, earns an average of ₹1,200 daily from his delivery job. Out of this daily income, he spends about ₹500 every day to prepare meals and help those in need. Despite sharing his work on Instagram, he earns nothing from the platform, meaning his food drives are 100 per cent self-funded through his delivery work.

The motivation behind his initiative comes from his late father's teachings. Saroj explained that he wants to honour his father's values and ensure that no one has to sleep on an empty stomach. One of his most fulfilling memories from the drive includes serving fresh meals to homeless individuals near the Kashmiri Gate flyover.

Balancing a demanding delivery job with daily food distribution presents significant physical and financial challenges. Saroj manages all aspects of the food drives, including cooking, financing, and strict time management, entirely on his own without any external assistance. To sustain the initiative, he has sacrificed his personal savings, comfort, and free time.

Despite the daily hurdles, Saroj continues to extend a helping hand to anyone who is hungry and sleeping on the street. He noted that the hard work pays off when he meets different people, shares warm food, and documents their stories online to inspire others. Reflecting on his life and mission, Saroj stated that no act of kindness is small, and that true success is giving back to society.
