Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Seeks ₹100 Crore From Centre to Accelerate PM-UDAY Scheme

On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta requested ₹100 crore from the Central government to accelerate the implementation of the PM-UDAY scheme in New Delhi. The requested funding is aimed at speeding up the process of providing property rights to residents living in 1,511 unauthorized colonies across the national capital, according to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
In a letter written to the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, Chief Minister Gupta outlined the detailed breakdown of the proposed expenditure. The Delhi government’s Revenue Department has been officially designated as the nodal agency to oversee and implement the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana, which is commonly known as the PM-UDAY scheme.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office statement, the largest portion of the requested funds, totaling ₹65 crore, is proposed for developing a modern land survey and mapping system. This technology-driven system is intended to make the process of property verification and land records modernization significantly more transparent and accurate.
Another ₹25 crore has been proposed for setting up PM-UDAY cells across all 13 districts of Delhi. Under the responsibilities of the Revenue Department, each of these district cells will be headed by an additional district magistrate (ADM). Chief Minister Gupta pointed out that without these cells, issuing property-related documents and authorization letters within the stipulated 45-day timeline would not be possible.
The remaining ₹10 crore of the proposal sets aside funds for public awareness and outreach activities. The Chief Minister's Office stated that these funds will be utilized to organize workshops with local residents welfare associations (RWAs), establish help desks, and disseminate critical information, including important eligibility-related dates, to the public.
The designated nodal agency, the Revenue Department, will carry out these responsibilities to ensure the PM-UDAY scheme is successfully rolled out to the residents of the 1,511 unauthorized colonies.
