Delhi civil defence volunteer arrested for posing as police constable in Karawal Nagar

A 26-year-old civil defence volunteer was arrested on Sunday night near the Jawahar Nagar picket in Karawal Nagar, Northeast Delhi, for allegedly impersonating a Delhi Police constable. The arrest took place at approximately 9:40 PM after the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the Delhi Police acted on a specific tipoff regarding the man's activities.
The suspect reportedly maintained a double life. By day, he worked as a regular hand at the Nand Nagri SDM office. At night, however, he allegedly slipped into a Delhi Police constable's khaki uniform to patrol the streets of Northeast Delhi, passing himself off as an active police officer.
According to police officials, the Anti-Auto Theft Squad received information about a civil defence volunteer posing as a police officer in the area. A team was dispatched and reached the Jawahar Nagar picket within minutes of receiving the alert.
Upon being intercepted and challenged by the responding police team, the 26-year-old confidently identified himself as "constable Shahrukh Khan." He further claimed to the team that he was posted at the local Karawal Nagar police station.
The police team immediately conducted a quick verification of his claims. The check revealed that no officer by the name of Shahrukh Khan was actually posted at the Karawal Nagar police station. Following the initial questioning and the failed verification, the suspect was arrested on the spot.
The police suspect that the man wore the uniform to project authority in the neighbourhood and carry out unauthorized checks on citizens while pretending to be a police officer.
An investigation has been launched to uncover more details about the case. Police officials stated that they are currently investigating to determine the suspect's exact motive behind the impersonation, and to establish whether he had financially benefited from the fraud.
